Oban’s RNLI lifeboat launched this morning, 6th October, to the aid of a yacht with two people onboard that had run aground off Eliean Mor, near Dunstaffanage. This is yet another grounding in a season that seems to have been unusually marked by such incidents.

The all-weather lifeboat, Mora Edith MacDonald, was requested to launch by Stornoway Coastguard at 08.57. The lifeboat with its volunteer crew arrived on scene at 09.27 to find the yacht aground.

The two persons on board had already been taken off the casualty vessel by other vessels in the area.

Once it was established that all persons were safe and that there was no immediate danger to the vessel, Oban Lifeboat was stood down at 9.57am and returned to her station, where she was refuelled and made ready for service again by 10.40.

RNLI media contacts: Leonie Woolf, RNLI volunteer lifeboat press officer at Oban, to station where she was refuelled and made ready for service again by 10.40am.

Note: the information above came from Leonie Woolf, a new deputy press officer at Oban Lifeboat station, who is assisting Iain Fulton and Willie Melville, making a team of three volunteer lifeboat press officers at the station – providing an unfailingly prompt service.
